1 oz MAPLE LEAFS

Hey guys, was wondering if there is anything negative about 1 0z Maple leafs as compared to other one ounce coins. I was thinking about buying some while I can. Any thoughts? TIA!

They are pure gold, and so they are softer than Eagles, Krands, etc., and therefore scratch and ding easier.

But I still own 'em, they're nice coins with excellent liquidity. Just need a little more protection.

Some people don't like seeing the queen on the reverse, but it's still gold, right? They're 24 karat, which is a double-edged sword. Different countries have different tax, import, and export laws regarding karat purity. 24 karat scratches very easily. But then again, some people like the purity of it. It's gorgeous. Personally, I prefer Gold American Eagles and Krugerrands (22 karat), but there isn't anything wrong with Maples. If you can buy some, I say go for it. Maples are great coins. Jim Sinclair thinks one should stick to official "coin of the realm," but he doesn't know everything.

Stop surfing the internet and go buy 'em already!

Silver and/or Gold Maple Leafs are recognized the world over. Buy them with confidence and enjoy them.

In my opinion Eagles and Maples are on par whether they be silver or gold. Their premium usually reflects that. I buy which ever is cheaper at the time.

If you are buying try to get the .9999 and not just the .999. I have had a local dealer lower his bid by $45 on .999 versus .9999.

Good point.

Some folks go crazy over the 4 nines stuff, either because they don't see it for the marketing gimmick it is, or they legitimately need it for jewelry making. If you ever do buy and sell 4 or 5 nines Maples, shop around. All Maples are liquid, but on occasion dealers have different prices depending on the purity. Most don't, but it never hurts to ask.
